Mamadou Dione, a web developer now turned entrepreneur, has launched JokkoText. It is an online platform which allows musicians across Africa to publish their content for free download or for sale.

The platform was launched in April of 2017. As of today, 15 artists distribute their work via JokkoText. Musicians are charged a commission fee for using the service. Users can buy albums and singles via credit cards, SMS billing or mobile money. According to Diome, he is yet to decide how to market the service.

JokkoText’s founder said that when it comes to music consumers, there are no traditional ways of buying content. There haven't been successful music solutions on the continent. Old platforms were poorly received as they only used credit cards. This didn’t resonate well in Senegal, where people prefer quick and efficient SMS payments.

For the time being JokkoText will concentrate on bringing in new talents. The platform seeks to find new talents across 50 African and European markets. The company is also working hard to make SMS payments accessible in Senegal as soon as possible.
